MAGNOTTO’S SHOP ‘N SAVE GOES DARK TO GO GREEN

HERMITAGE – Magnotto’s Shop ‘N Save of 2199 East State Street in Hermitage will no longer be open 24 hours. In an effort to cut overall energy use, the grocery store will close at 11 P.M. and reopen the following day at 6 A.M.

Aileen and Michael Magnotto, co-owners of the store are proud of the initiative they have set in place within the past week.

“Michael and I have been thinking of ways to reduce our business’s environmental impact. We have set trends including our vast selection of homemade and all-natural foods, wheat free foods for those with allergies, and our store was one of the very first stores in the nation to use ‘Modular from Husssman:’ an advanced defrost technology system that produces colder, more stable product temperatures in every meat, deli, dairy, and produce case; while also saving energy. Hopefully our awareness will follow in the footsteps of the success of other trends we like to credit ourselves with and more businesses will become environmentally savvy” said Aileen Magnotto.

“Our decision to close during night hours makes sense. After realizing how simple it was to reduce our carbon footprint, our projections showed that an anticipated savings of 20% in energy costs will be passed onto our customers in lowers prices and extra services” said Michael Magnotto.

Shop ‘N Save opened under the ownership of Michael and Aileen Magnotto on December 1, 1999. Offering a full service floral, bakery, deli, meat and seafood departments, the store is also home to The Family Pharmacy and M&M Beer, the first beer distributor to be affiliated with a grocery store in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania .

“By reducing our carbon footprint, we look forward to channeling our newly conserved energy into leaving more positive footprints in our community” said Aileen Magnotto.

In Response to the high concern for illnesses created by food additives, Magnotto’s Shop’n Save has introduced a new line of Natural meats.

Animals raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics, as well as being fed purely vegetarian diets; are now being sold at Magnotto’s Shop’n Save, 2199 East State Street; Hermitage, Pa.

What is so unique is that the meat is delivered fresh from the farms to Magnotto’s. The Beef is supplied by Wolfs Neck Farms, which supplies many organic specialty stores throughout the nation, and exclusively offers prime and choice natural beef, the highest grade available. Gerber Farms of Ohio supplies the Natural Chicken, and delivers the chicken to Shop‘n Save within hours of slaughter.

The standards for natural meats are very high to the Magnotto’s for a very good reason. Aileen Magnotto, co-owner, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May, and finished undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments in November. Currently on a hormone blocking drug, Aileen knows the importance of educating the public on the importance of food additives, especially in the meats and animal products such as milk and eggs. “Why would I knowingly put more hormones or additives into my body when I know my cancer is hormone sensitive?”

The meat is cut fresh, with many trained butchers on site at the store.

Thank You
