Since 1906, the Magnotto family has been serving the Shenango
Valley with various grocery stores. Started in 1906 by Pasquale
Magnotto in Farrell Pennylvania, the grocery legend was followed
up by his son, Herman Magnotto, with his corner store on Roemer
Blvd. and Wallis Ave. in Farrell, Pennsylvania. Starting to work
with his father at age eight, his store, along with his brothers,
the former Bill and Leonard Magnotto took over their father's
store after his death in 1943. Magnotto's Farrell Golden Dawn
opened with Herman as its sole owner in 1959. However, Bill and
Leonard still continued to help. In 1968, the store was remodeled
for the forth time by expanding it fifty feet along Wallis Ave.,
in Farrell. Herman would put in a total of fourteen hours a day
"to make ends meet" Herman says, "But it was worth
it ". He also had help from his wife, the late Doris Magnotto,
and his three sons, Michael, Timothy, and Paul.
In 1986, Herman retired, with
his youngest son Michael following his footsteps by opening Hermitage
County Market on East State Street in 1985. Hermitage County Market
was closed on November 30, 1999 for the opening of the new Magnotto's
Hermitage Shop-N-Save, across the other side of the parking lot.

Hermitage Shop-N-Save was opened
on December 1, 1999 by Michael and Aileen Magnotto. The new Shop-N-Save
offers a bakery, deli, meat and seafood departments, full service
floral, dairy, RX Parteners Pharmacy, produce, homemade soups
and pastas, Herman's homemade sauce, and the good quality service
that we have offered for almost 100 years. The legacy continues.
